The Team

We have a dedicated team of people to care for your pets at the Salt Rock Veterinary Clinic.

Dr Roxanne Buckle

Roxy grew up in KZN, and after studying at Onderstepoort and working in a busy Johannesburg clinic, she returned in 2020 to take over the Salt Rock Vet practice. She’s one of those people who has always loved animals, and always wanted to become a vet — and it shows. Roxy lives with her husband and two dogs, Tootsie & Hugo, and her rescue rabbit, Gimli.

Dr Philip van Aswegen

Phil graduated from Onderstepooort in 2020 and completed his community service year in Hlulhuwe. Since then he has been in small animal private practice, spending many hours treating emergencies at Ashburne’s 24/7 clinic. Veterinary surgery is his particular area of expertise. Phil lives in Ballito with his wife and one-eyed (but full-hearted) pup, Bia.

Helen Roelofse

Helen has been a member of our team since 2012. Born in Zimbabwe, she settled on the North Coast with her family over a decade ago. Helen has two children and two dogs: sweet Coco and feisty Toffee, one of whom has an appetite for fish hooks (it’s Toffee). Helen’s also the reason we need to refill the clinic’s pet treat jar five times a day.

Shabana Wahab

Shabs has been working in reception at the Salt Rock Veterinary Clinic since 2008. She knows (and loves) all the local pets. At home, she’s kept busy looking after her two small children, her big dog, and her eight (8!) cats. Please don’t bring kittens near her.

Handrey Zondi

Handrey is from Pietermaritzburg. He’s been working with animals for many years, and joined the Salt Rock team in 2013. He assists Roxy and Phil in the clinic, grooms some of our regular cats, and will happily carry a heavy bag of food for you. Handrey’s favourite breed of dog is the Pocket Rocket Jack Russell.

Musa Mbuyazi

Musa joined the Salt Rock Veterinary team in 2017. Originally from Richards Bay, he still heads up the coast for his holidays. Musa is always ready to help with anything (which, in a vet clinic, really can be anything). At home, he spends time with his teenage daughter and their two large dogs.
